Mechanism of action of topical imicoimod
– Safety response modulator
Activation of immune cells (with agonist effects of Tol-like receptor 7 (TLR-7))
Increased markers of cytokines and immune cells and their migration in the dermal application of the drug
Pharmacokinetics of topical imiquimod
Absorption: Partial (systemic absorption rate depending on the level of drug use)
Plasma peak: 12-9 hours
Excretion: Urine (less than 3% of the dose used)
Side effects of topical imiquimod:
Common complications (<10%):
Cutaneous: localized erythema, dry skin, flaky skin, cutaneous sclerosis, cutaneous ulcers, localized vesicles, peeling of the skin
Infectious: A fungal infection
Topical: local edema, discharge from the site, local itching, local burning
Respiratory: Infection of the upper respiratory tract
Relatively common side effects (10-1%):
Cardiovascular: Chest pain, localized pallor
Common complications (<10%):
