Indications for tamsulosin
Tamsulosin is used in prostate hyperplasia (prostate enlargement) (BPH).
Other uses of this drug: Treatment of symptoms of obstruction and dysfunction of the bladder outlet and facilitate the excretion of renal septa.
Mechanism of action of tamsulosin
Tamsulosin is an alpha 1A-adrenoceptor antagonist in the prostate. Involuntary muscles in the prostate are contracted by Alfa 1A adrenoceptors. Blockade of these receptors causes the involuntary muscles at the end of the bladder and prostate to relax and release, resulting in decreased urine flow and large prostate symptoms (BPH). Approximately 75% of alpha 1 prostate receptors are Alfa 1A.
